new photos, new girls...

Taking photos has got to be one of the hardest parts of running an online shop.  I take loads of them, then deliberate for ages on which ones to use.  I find that having an Etsy shop means I can be more adventurous with my photos, whereas I try and keep my website images using thhe same backdrop and neutral background...but I LOVE these more colourful images.  Should I use them on my website?  or stick to my usual setup?  will it make my website look untidy?  should the images there be uniformed? does any of this really matter?

Beautiful wasp waisted Rosie isn't on the website yet...but she will be soon.

This is Eloise and she is available in two colourways
Oh well, back to my image deliberations.....if you have any thoughts I'd love to hear them, Lucyxx

Hi Lucy,
I love these images and think they would make your work stand out from the rest, however I understand your desire for uniformity and a clean look to your website. How about having a "gallery" or "inspiration" page showing your jazzier photos with their different settings but keep the individual pages for each item for sale the same and more plain? I have to say, taking photos of things I've made to sell is the bit I like the least...

They are gorgeous photos - the backgrounds really compliment the beautiful mannikins. Tricky question though - plain or pretty. I share your problem, and don't have such good photos to choose from!

I love your mannikins, by the way - I want one! (have to ask my husband nicely...:-)

I think its great to have a bit of background colour so why not have a go, the colours are all very similar so nothing jumps out too much. I have to admit though I went from cream backgrounds initially and now white, which is a bit formal I would like to have a go at a more colourful background. :)

thanks for all your very helpful comments. I knew I would get good advice if I asked on here.

I think a compromise is in order and so I will keep the plainer images for actual buying page and use the prettier images for Etsy and my website homepage. When you are looking at my frontpage as much as I do its nice to see some more vibrant images! Lucyxx

Beautiful pics. How about keeping your plain background as the first shot, but including these as later ones of the 5 available per item?
